Recently, while scrolling down LinkedIn, I have seen many people jotting about fake internship programs making people work full-time without pay or with a very small amount of stipend.
These scams are very normal and have been running for a very long time. They are being highlighted now as there are many true companies that hire you for full-time and pay less but give you lots of experience, and on the other hand, now people have started to fake these jobs and internship offers. They hire and make you work for their profit and either pay you or keep the terms and conditions, such as for a certificate + learning, and highlight the feature that you will be able to add this to your CV. But this sort of term and condition makes you work worse than a daily wage worker. These sorts of internships or part-time work with less or no pay are a type of hindrance to the right to pay for work.
As one of these scams happened to me while I was in college, I applied for digital marketing, and it was a 3-month internship without pay, but I ignored the pay and thought of experience and joined it. When half a month was completed, I came to know from my colleagues that this company is fake and they only make you work more, that too for their own benefit, and at the end they do not provide the certificate as well. After consulting with more colleagues, I believed in them and did a search for their registered business with the government, and what I found was something hilarious: they even created a fake government website and added it there as well. Many other companies were also there. Later, I filed a complaint with cybercrime, but the issue was still not resolved. d. These scams are done with a group of people with the same ideology.
How to know about such internships or part-time jobs?
You need to search and ask for their registered business number with the government, and if private, ask for the GST number and check. If they ask you to pay for an internship in their company at that time only, you should back off. unclear job description. pressure to act quickly.
An internship is a short-term, structured work experience that helps students or fresh graduates gain practical exposure to a professional field while applying their academic knowledge.
