Oil, Power, and Politics: The 2026 US-Venezuela Clash

The fight between the United States and Venezuela in early 2026 was the result of long‑standing tensions that finally escalated into open confrontation. At the heart of the dispute were Venezuela’s vast oil reserves and the U.S. interest in maintaining stability in global energy markets.  Washington accused President Nicolás Maduro ’s government of mismanaging resources, undermining the petro‑dollar system, and fostering ties with drug cartels, framing its military action as a crackdown on criminal networks and a defense of economic security. The situation intensified when U.S. forces launched strikes, imposed a naval blockade , and eventually captured Maduro, triggering a state of emergency in Venezuela.  Beyond the immediate clash, the conflict carried wider geopolitical consequences: oil prices fluctuated, regional trade and migration were disrupted, and global powers debated the legitimacy of U.S. intervention. In essence, the fight was not a sudden eruption but the cu...

Indian pharma exports at risk

On 25 September 2025, Donald Trump announced a 100% tariff on imports of branded or patented pharmaceutical drugs . This move could have major effects on Indian drug makers . This will be imposed from October 1, 2025. The US is the largest maker for Indian drugmakers, but after this imposition, if the company is making a pharmaceutical manufacturing plant in America or it is under construction, they will be safe from large tariffs. and it includes many other tariffs on different things.  India sold $3.6 billion (₹31,626 crore) worth of medicines to the US in 2024, and another $3.7 billion (₹32,505 crore) just in the first half of 2025. Indian companies like Dr Reddy’s, Sun Pharma, Lupin, and Aurobindo have done well in the US because they offer cheaper generic medicines. Recently, President Trump announced new tariffs mainly targeting expensive branded and patented drugs made by big global companies. But there’s still worry that Indian-made complex generics and specialty medici...

Rupee Dominance

Rupee is setting up A New Age of International Trade ! In an effort to lessen reliance on the dollar , India is promoting the rupee as a trading currency among its BRICS allies . In order to facilitate rupee settlements through Vostro accounts , the RBI has even introduced additional regulations. The rupee hasn't been completely adopted by BRICS as a whole. In order to increase rupee usage, India is instead signing bilateral arrangements with countries including the Maldives , the United Arab Emirates , and Russia .  Although the change is true, it is occurring gradually rather than all at once. Nevertheless, it's a significant victory for India's economic clout and a daring move to lessen dollar supremacy.

A Friendship turned into a Tariff fight

Back in 2024 in the U.S. during the election, Trump criticized India on U.S. goods—such as motorcycles and medical devices with duties up to 60%—and threatened reciprocal measures. In February 2025, PM Modi visited Washington, where both countries agreed to meet their goal of $500 billion in bilateral trade by the end of the year 2030. In response to this, PM Modi even said that they are ready to lower the tariffs that they put on the US for goods, though the pricing and products were not decided yet. And during the first administration of Trump, the US imposed heavy taxes of around 25% on Indian steel and aluminum to protect national security, but it was not appreciated by India, so it delayed the response. In the present, President Trump announced new tariffs on India with a 26 and 27% increase on products that are entering India. He felt that the Indian tariffs were high as compared to the US, which were 11.5% to 12% in India, and the US had only 2.2%, which was an unfair deal to...
