India's largest port is now built in Maharashtra. 90% of India's trade is now happening in India. as parliament replaced the old Indian Ports Act, 1908. The new Indian Ports Bill Act 2025, passed by both Rajya and Lok Sabha, promotes integrated development, regulates operations/tariffs, sets up dispute resolution committees, and mandates environmental safeguards per global conventions like MARPOL.
Vadhavan port was built at a cost of ₹76000 as India's largest deep-sea port. Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis said it will build 300 tons of cargo a year and will be in the top 10 ports in the world. The letter of intent between India and Singapore was signed in March, and the MOU will be linked next month, a Green and Digital Shipping Corridor between India and Singapore.
A huge maritime event was held in Navi Mumbai, which was attended by 300 leaders in India and abroad. These included ministers, port heads, and global experts. This route will also connect long routes in international routes like Europe, the Middle East, and Russia, making it a central global hub for trade.
