Do your work fast; don't waste time. Why are you so lazy? Why are you yawning every time? Why are you so sleepy? are some of the questions. They sound familiar to us in today's ultra-competitive world, where students are often made to feel shameful and guilty for resting and having a peaceful time for themselves. But rest isn't an unproductive thing; it's a necessity and essential for a person to keep themselves healthy and mentally fit.
In today's world, which is developing fast, students are expected to multitask, and they should meet deadlines to manage future work and internships, which will help them to stay ahead of their future tasks. But the truth we all need to understand is when students are loaded, or any person who is loaded with more work and less time, this creates an imbalance in a person's life, which could risk his health. Even if we have a problem in our life, we need some time to think in a peaceful environment to find a solution to step out from that problem. And studies also reveal that the human brain can only focus for about 90 to 120 minutes before it starts losing efficiency. Rest is also a part of work, which is required by the body. Because mental recovery leads to better learning. Even when we use our phones and they have less battery left, we keep them aside for charging and let them rest, as human needs dictate.
Rest does not only mean sleeping; it can be anything, doing yoga or doing any mindful activity or work that keeps your brain and body at rest. Mindful walking, mindful journaling, mindful painting, mindful dancing, deep breathing, etc.—these are the moments that help us to learn to process our emotions and prevent negative thoughts from our minds. In fact, some of the research shows that focus and memory are the very vital sources of the body that allow us to improve every day in our lives. The brain stores our information, and it also gives the breakthroughto some of the impossible things to work on. If we take the example of Albert Einstein, then we can say that the best moments come when we try to rest. The invention of gravity is such a thing that has been gifted by him.
Some of the other ways in which people perform resting are while reading a book, walking in a garden, listening to music, meditating, or performing art, etc. Productivity isn't just what you finish, but it's also how you will begin again. Human beings are not machines; there are creatures that require rest for better thinking for society.
You don't have to burn out to be successful. You just have to know when to breathe.
Rest is not idle. It's a fuel that makes work meaningful.
