Equality is not a women's issue; it's a human issue. Equality begins when we start not to compare boys and girls on everyday tasks and stop telling girls to adjust to boys and lead a life ahead. Every girl deserves their choice and their way of living life, which is also granted in our constitution but is not taken very seriously, as women are compelled to follow the instruction and way of life according to the parents before marriage and according to the in-laws and husband and kids after marriage. Gender equality does not only exist for males and females; it also calls for a stand for LGBTQ, which is not considered a gender yet but is yet defined in gender roles. We can also see this in forms of school, colleges, workplaces, and other places. Despite all the measures, gender equality still remains a daily battle, and it does not finish just in laws, but it also reflects how we think, behave, and live in a society, considering all the societal norms and equality and not creating chaos that affects the mental health of the people that be of any gender.
This blog will cover how gender roles are deeply rooted in everyday behavior and life, or, say, routine in men's, women's, or any other gender's life.
Every gender matters.
Despite every modern progress and development, we have seen that LGBTQ still remains a question. We have mostly seen in schools and colleges that gender consists of only two options, male and female, and not considering any other gender. The basic learning always starts at the home, school, and college, where every gender role and equality should be flowing in our minds and blood. Even on the online platforms, we have seen an unethical and unconscious bias that has shaped a view that people do not treat well any other genders besidesmale and female. Even these genders have not been given any identity or orientation. If any transgender person tries to cope with the education and job roles, there are always some individuals who spread the hatred, and because of this, these people face bullying, mental health challenges, and exclusion. They show they are but because of the society that treats them like a curse in their surroundings. Recently, in April 2025, Tamil Nadu introduced a bill to the dead transgender from work list discrimination, and he also set a reminder that policy must reflect real life.
Even we have seen there are few transgenders who don't support that community, as when it is time to stand in unity, they mostly don't stand for their rights. After so much effort, we have seen few cities and places where transgenders are given the opportunity to work and receive their equal pay and respect, whereasfew transgenders work like this, and if any working transgender tries to support them, they reject their offer and explain to them the soothing life they live in the roles they ought.
Battle of a Gender:
In many households, we have seen that women are usually forced to handle household work and not opt for any job role, as we have seen from history that women are expected to do the kitchen chores and handle the house, and on the other hand, men are expected to handle the financial crisis and meet the family requirements. We have seen gender inequality at home and school in our everyday routine, as girls in class are asked to behave well and boys are pushed to lead a future. We have also seen discrimination, like handling of heavy things being followed by boys, not girls, because they are considered weak. Girls are always thought to quit the work after having a baby because it is important to take care of and give education and manners to the child, and men are expected to work for their family, but the situation can also be vice versa and be applicable to all.
Even in the house, we have seen that when mothers are cooking and we have two children at home, be it a brother and sister, then we have seen mostly girls are called to help out mothers in kitchen work, and boys can do whatever they wish, which is also a lesson to be improvised for a healthy future. Endlessly there are many examples and situations where girls have faced this kind of issue, but it's not appropriate to do such things, which leads to unhealthy relationships and families.
Gender equality meaning:
Gender equality is not only related to laws and policies for governmental roles; it is also related to the choices made by one. Gender equality is like sharing everyday responsibilities, listening without bias, and treating everyone with the equal respect and dignity they deserve.
Boys have emotions to express but are tried to be controlled by the society or manipulated to not be so expressive with the emotions, as they are regarded as the strong statues and a heartless person to express the feeling. We can also change the key while merging the roles of boys and girls, like giving a situation to handle the leadership qualities through the task provided of handling client meetings and students in school. And males should be given equal paternity leave and should be open to expressing their emotions and not hiding them. They can also question casual sexism.
Equality means everyone—regardless of gender or identity—gets to live without fear & without limits.
